Originally from Toronto, Canada, is a graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design and the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and earned her MFA from Mills College in Oakland, CA. Her work has been exhibited across Canada, France, and the United States. Major works with San Francisco Art Education Project, and SFUSD teaching art to children in San Francisco public schools. She is currently a member of Gearbox Gallery in Oakland, CA.

Major’s current series involves both covering up and exposing. The paintings are made solely by dripping paint onto canvas. Major controls the placement of the drip only to give up that control and allow the paint to move on its own, allowing gravity and chance to dictate the path of the drips to create works that balance exposure and concealment, and convey both freedom and tension. Occasionally she coaxes the paint to move in a direction that exposes specific colors. In pursuing chance operations, Major’s paintings almost make themselves. A free flow is conjured, like rivers running or thoughts pouring out and connecting. This exhibition promises to be a compelling exploration of control, freedom and the hidden layers within her paintings.
